Risk & Discipline

A Risk-Managed Approach to

Entertainment Finance

Investing in film and television inherently involves risk. Epiq Film Fund seeks to mitigate these risks through structured financing, rigorous diligence, and active oversight informed by extensive real-world experience in both finance and production.

Underwriting & Due Diligence

Each investment opportunity undergoes a comprehensive evaluation process that considers:

  • Production feasibility, scheduling, and budget integrity
  • Counterparty strength, including distributors and sales agents
  • Legal structure, chain of title, and completion protections
  • Market comparables and realistic distribution outlook

The objective is to identify opportunities where contractual protections and structural safeguards materially reduce exposure.

Financial Risk Mitigation

Where applicable, the Fund incorporates multiple layers of risk reduction, including:

Tax & Film Incentives

Utilization of local, state, and international production incentives to offset a meaningful portion of capital exposure. Incentives may be pre-monetized or collected at completion, depending on structure and timing.

Presales & Distribution Commitments

Selective use of presales or presale commitments—often cast-dependent—to secure a portion of project budgets prior to production.

Cross-Collateralization

All projects within the Fund are cross-collateralized, providing portfolio-level risk mitigation rather than reliance on single-project performance.

Production Risk Controls

The single greatest risk in filmmaking is failure to complete and deliver a project on time and on budget. The Fund addresses this risk through:

  • Extensive script development and production planning
  • Experienced production leadership and completion oversight
  • Established buyer and distributor relationships prior to production
  • Practical, hands-on involvement across all phases of content creation

This combination of financial discipline and production experience is intended to materially reduce execution risk.
